EDDY RICO is a hardworking Mexican-American repo man struggling to keep his family towing business alive in Barstow, California. His gifted daughter, LUNA, can hot-wire and drive almost anything, but she’s beginning to question a profession that profits from other people’s hardship. When Eddy’s wife, DIANE, proposes selling Rico Repo to give their children a better future, Eddy must consider whether the business he built from nothing is actually holding his family back.
Meanwhile, Diane’s eccentric brother, UNCLE CHUCK, fills twelve-year-old LUCAS’s head with stories about aliens, the evil OCTOLUMINATY, and their galactic fugitive grandfather, MOTT. Eddy dismisses it all as fantasy—until he touches a mysterious Cosmic Classified inside Chuck’s comic book and unknowingly activates it. Later, Lucas discovers the comic contains something even more extraordinary: the ASTRONOMICON, a map of the universe that briefly connects him with his missing grandfather.
That night, while Eddy and Luna are repossessing a car, an alien craft appears. After a desperate chase across the desert, Eddy attempts to sacrifice himself to save Luna, but she refuses to abandon him. Both are abducted.
Light-years away, Eddy and Luna arrive at a SPACE REPO OUTPOST, where they learn they’re stranded without the Fuel-Sticks needed to buy the Astro-Coordinates home. Their only way back is to do what they know best: repo.
Back home, Chuck finally reveals the truth. Using the Astronomicon, he tracks Eddy and Luna across the galaxy. With the help of CACTINA, Chuck’s seemingly ordinary but very much alive cactus, the family locates an alien spacecraft hidden at Edwards Air Force Base. Then Chuck drops an even bigger bombshell on Diane: their family isn’t from Earth.
One week later, their first job becomes a battle for survival against Space Jackers and Asteroid Leeches. Forced to sacrifice their repo to escape, Eddy reassures his daughter that despite the impossible odds, they will make it home.
